Ban elephant ivory and tusks from being imported into the U.S.
The Trump administration wants to start issuing permits for elephant trophy hunting. I have been to Africa and have seen first hand the impact of hunting elephants for ivory. Dead elephant carcasses left to rot with only the tusks taken is a sight no one should have to endure. A gross waste of life and resources for the environment and community. I cannot stand silent as this change is made. Elephants are a majestic animal and are a protected species. To condone killing this animal for sport and importing the ivory and tusks into the US is a legacy I would prefer we not leave. Please help me in sending a message that we will not sit idly by as these decisions are made. We will be proactive and use our voices to make it known we do not condone this and do not want a reversal of a ban that was put in place to protect this species.
Pass the Preventing Animal Cruelty (PACT) Act
Ask Congress to pass the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, the first-ever general federal Animal Cruelty law in history. This is a bill with broad bipartisan support. Even prior to swearing in the new members of Congress, this bill had 36 Co-Sponsors in the Senate and 283 Co-Sponsors in the House. It was previously blocked from a vote by a single congressman. Now that the House of Representatives has changed, this bill needs to be brought to the floor of Congress for a vote. We should not go another day without protecting the animals from cruelty, bestiality, and torture. Why is this law important? This law will allow the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies to crack down on malicious cruelty and the sexual exploitation of innocent animals. The legislation will build on the federal “animal crush” video law that was enacted in 2010, which banned the creation, sale, and distribution of obscene videos that show animals being crushed, burned, drowned, suffocated, impaled, or subjected to other forms of heinous cruelty. The PACT Act will prohibit those same extreme acts of animal cruelty when they occur in interstate or foreign commerce, regardless of whether a video is produced. The PACT Act will also enable the federal government to prosecute malicious acts of animal cruelty on federal property such as military bases, federal prisons, airports, and national parks. Additionally, it will enable federal authorities to crack down on the practice of bestiality which often involves a subculture where animals are moved across state lines and where information is exchanged on websites that enable the exploitation to happen. Who supports this bill? This legislation is endorsed by more than 200 law enforcement agencies across the country. This bill was previously passed in the Senate by a UNANIMOUS bipartisan vote. This bill had 283 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and 36 Co-Sponsors in the Senate even prior to the swearing in of the current members of congress. History In December 2017 the Senate UNANIMOUSLY passed the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act, S. 654. This bipartisan legislation protecting animals against cruelty and torture was led in the U.S. Senate by Senators Pat Toomey, R-Pa, Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and was joined by 34 cosponsors. Despite the overwhelming bipartisan support we still do not have this important federal law. The bill was blocked by a single member of Congress despite the valiant efforts of Reps. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, and Ted Deutch, D-Fla. to help pass this bill (H.R. 1494). Reps. Lamar Smith and Ted Deutch previously secured an unbelievable 283 cosponsors and broad bipartisan support by ⅔ of Congress. Now, with the change of leadership in Congress, there is a new and fresh opportunity for congress to pass this important law with vast bipartisan support. Why should we sign this now? There is a new and fresh opportunity for congress to pass the overwhelmingly bipartisan Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act that was previously blocked by a single member of congress. The shift of power in Congress has removed this one congressman as an obstacle. Now this bill has a real opportunity to pass if the public demands that Congress makes it a legislative priority, and brings it to a vote. Passage will bring the first federal animal cruelty bill that protects against bestiality, animal cruelty, and animal torture. Your signature will help demonstrate the public outcry to make this a legislative priority. The animals cannot speak for themselves. Please consider being the voice for the voiceless and sign the petition. Your support will speak volumes to lawmakers! "Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have." ~Margaret Mead What you can you do to help RIGHT NOW in addition to signing the petition? (IMPORTANT) (Total Time: 5-7 minutes) 1. Share this Petition on social media, and ask your friends, co-workers, and family to sign the petition and consider sharing it as well. 2. Contact your congressional representative's office, and politely inform them that you are calling to ask your representative to support H.R.724 - The PACT Act which will make animal cruelty a federal crime. (The process is simple. Just call the Capitol Switchboard. (202) 224-3121. Give them your zip code, and they will provide you with the telephone number for your congressional representative. Call that number, and express your support.) This will make a big difference. 3. #JusticeForRocky Demand that Rocky be released from Swedish Officials
On Sunday, June 30th, A$AP Rocky, his bodyguard and two performers from his show acted in self-defense after two men followed, harassed and physically assaulted them in Stockholm. Video footage shows the assailants following Rocky and his colleagues, even cutting off where they are trying to walk sometimes, while Rocky pleads to them that he does not want any issues. The group of men continued to follow and harass Rocky and his colleagues, asking for money, and began grabbing Rocky and the others. This led Rocky and his colleagues to act in self-defense to avoid any further physical harm. On Tuesday, July 2nd, Rocky volunteered to go to police headquarters after his performance for questioning about this incident. Rocky and his colleagues were arrested on-site. We are surprised that something like this could happen in Sweden to people who were minding their business and forced to defend themselves from a group of assailants. This should be about justice. Rocky has been in prison for six days for the use of self defense. Upon being detained, Rocky was denied his request to counsel which is in violation of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to which Sweden is a signatory. Everyone has the same rights to be treated fairly upon detainment and should be given fair and equal access to such rights. Since, he has been allowed to visit with a U.S. Embassy Consult and attorney, but only in the presence of Swedish officials. It is extremely troubling and worrisome that the laws are not being applied equally in these circumstances. On Monday, July 8th, we filed an appeal with the Swedish Supreme Court to have Rocky released from the inhumane conditions and the clear violation of human rights. They rejected the filing, which means Rocky will remain in prison for two weeks. The conditions of the facility are horrific. Some of the inhumane conditions Rocky and his colleagues are facing at the Stockholm Detention Center include 24/7 solitary confinement, restriction of amenities for the most basic of human functions, access to palatable and life sustaining food as well as unsanitary conditions. The prosecutor on the case has further communicated that he is working to receive an additional two-week extension for a trial to begin in mid - to end of August. To keep Rocky and his colleagues in jail pending the lengthy trial proceedings is a punishment before the fact, with no due process. Join us in the #JusticeForRocky movement and demand that Rocky be released from Swedish officials immediately. Share this petition, along with our image on social media: https://bit.ly/2NIQt2A
We want to see Trump's tax returns.
President Trump calls reports of his alleged compromising ties to Russian businesses and government officials, “FAKE NEWS - A TOTAL POLITICAL WITCH HUNT.” He can prove it by releasing his tax returns. Who does our president owe money to? Can they use his debt to manipulate our Commander-in-Chief? Is he receiving income from foreign sources to his businesses from which he has yet to divest? The answers are easy to discover if he releases his tax returns. In a press conference, Trump told the assembled reporters, “The only people who seem to care about my tax returns are you people here.” Our country does care. In fact, according to an ABC/Washington Post poll, 74% of Americans (including 53% of Republicans) want him to RELEASE HIS TAX RETURNS. Every major presidential candidate for the past 40 years has voluntarily released their tax returns. President Nixon even released his tax returns while under audit. Why does President Trump refuse to release his taxes if he has nothing to hide? Please sign and SHARE this petition calling on President Trump to RELEASE HIS TAX RETURNS NOW.
Kudüs Filistin’in başkentidir ve öyle kalmalı
Donald Trump’ın kısa süre içinde Kudüs’ü İsrail’in başkenti olarak tanıması bekleniyor. İsrail’in 1967’de doğu Kudüs’ü işgali ve sonrasında işgal ettiği bölge Birleşmiş Milletler tarafından yasa dışı olarak değerlendiriliyor. Save Net Neutrality!
The internet has always been a place for everyone to have the ability to connect to each other and share ideas. A place where every site is treated equally with equal bandwidth for people to connect to it. However, the US Government wants to actually limit net neutrality, claiming that not all sites are equal on the internet, and therefore not all needing to have equal bandwidth from Internet Service Providers. This would allow ISPs to only supply certain websites on their service and essentially partition the web. Imagine needing to pay one company to be able to connect to social media, and another company to watch YouTube. On top of that small websites would almost never get supported and therefore get no attention, making it harder for people to share their ideas or views on the world. If this were allowed to happen this would kill free speech on the web since only big companies would get most of the internet traffic and any websites supporting views that maybe ISPs don’t agree with wouldn’t get any support to be connected to anymore.
Require the VA to provide service dogs to veterans in need
Our military veterans are heroes. They face struggles that we couldn't imagine, and they do it selflessly to protect our great country. However, their transition home can often be just as difficult because of mental and physical ailments from their service. The waitlist for the VA is far too long to quickly handle the care of every returning veteran, but their medical needs are urgent. Some of these needs can only be treated through direct medical care, but other needs can be met through a service dog. Service dogs can be trained to care for people with PTSD, visual impairments, hearing impairments, mobility impairments, and many other conditions. Furthermore, these dogs can ensure that the veteran is never alone while dealing with these conditions. Currently, the VA offers service dogs to those with hearing/sight loss and mobility impairments. However, they do not offer dogs to veterans with psychological issues, such as PTSD. I am advocating that, as part of the VA Compensation and Pension (C&P) evaluation process, the VA offer dogs to all veterans diagnosed with psychological or physical conditions. This small step would make a massive difference in the lives of these men and women. They've given everything for us. Let's give back to them.
Clemency for Craig Cesal - Serving Life Without Parole for Marijuana
Seventeen years ago, my dad, Craig Cesal, was arrested on a marijuana conspiracy case because he owned a trucking repair business. He would repair trucks that had been leased and used to smuggle pot. The trucks would be trashed after the marijuana was stripped from the secret compartments, and although it was obvious these trucks were being used to smuggle pot, my dad didn't think it was his business to report it. He had no criminal history whatsoever, but today, he is serving a life sentence without parole because he didn't take a plea bargain, went to trial, and was therefore held responsible for everything the kingpin and smugglers had done. They cut deals, testified against him and they are all free today. Marijuana is now legal for recreational use in nine states. And politicians like John Boehner are joining marijuana investment firms and plan to make millions of dollars while my dad rots in prison. His only chance at freedom is if President Trump commutes his sentence. My dad was a single, divorced, dad, and would tell my brother and I that if we got straight A's at school, we would go on a special trip, like Washington DC or Disneyland. It always worked. He would also make us wear T-shirts that said “I got straight A's and came to Disneyland.” He would also make us take photos with all the Disney characters. He loved to show everyone the photos of us with Disney characters when we got home. He was the best dad in the world and I don't see how his incarceration is serving any good purpose for our society. If President Trump does not commute my father's sentence, he will likely die in prison, especially since he has diabetes and has had medical complications and requirements that are not being properly met. Please sign my petition so I can be with my father. We want to make up for the time we have missed out on. You will end so much suffering if this petition succeeds in bringing him home. Lauren Cesal
Save North Atlantic Right Whales from Seismic Airgun Blasting
President Trump stands poised to green-light new seismic airgun blasting and offshore drilling in the Atlantic Ocean — and the fate of one of the world’s most critically endangered whales hangs in the balance. The dynamite-like blasts of seismic airguns — used to search for oil and gas deposits — hinder North Atlantic right whales’ ability to find food, ward off sickness and keep track of their babies. Their existence is already hanging by a thread. No calves are known to have been born during this year’s calving season, and in the past year, at least 17 whales have been found dead – the most since scientists started reporting on mortality rates. Only about 100 breeding females remain alive. With fewer than 450 North Atlantic right whales remaining, the threat of seismic airgun blasting and offshore drilling could tip the population toward extinction. During a seismic survey, ships may tow dozens of seismic airguns behind them, firing intense loud blasts of air every 10 to 12 seconds, up to 24 hours a day for weeks to months at-a-time. The noise can travel thousands of miles underwater, indiscriminately impacting ocean animals in its path. We refuse to stand by while the federal government considers allowing this unnecessary harm. Oceana’s grassroots campaigners have already helped mobilize over 42,000 businesses and 500,000 fishing families from Florida to Maine in strong opposition of seismic airgun blasting and offshore drilling off the U.S. East Coast. We’ve successfully kept seismic airgun blasting and offshore drilling out of Atlantic waters for years: add your name now to help us do it again. The Trump Administration won’t back down easily. It’s going to take tireless efforts from Oceana organizers, campaigners and scientists from across the country to protect whales, dolphins and other marine life from seismic airgun blasting and offshore drilling. Our fight is far from over, and we need support from supporters like you. Add your name now to tell President Trump NO to seismic airgun blasting and offshore oil drilling.
Save Net Neutrality Again November 2017.
People Responsible for this petition: Shameem Akhter, Anastasia Zellner, Marcus Mudano. The Internet is a place where people can learn, entertain, teach, discuss, and do far more, but today, our Federal Government is working to roll back Net Neutrality rules on equal access. What is Net Neutrality? Net Neutrality is the idea that your acess to the internet, whether it is LTE or a wireless internet connection, is not altered or manipulated by Internet service providers (companies like AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, or BrightHouse that provide internet access.) Titles I and II of The Communications Act of 1934 give the FCC stronger enforcement and oversight over Internet service providers and their access to their customers’ activities on the Internet. If these rules and regulations are repealed, many Americans would have to deal with Internet Service providers impinging on their access to the websites they rely on. Why? 1. Internet Service providers are slowing down internet speed to websites that compete with them. 2. Internet Service Providers are blocking access to websites that compete with them. For a good example:http://money.cnn.com/2011/12/06/technology/verizon_blocks_google_wallet/index.htm These only begin to exemplify what can happen when regulations on Internet Service providers are removed. Many Americans will lose access to certain apps or websites because of Internet Service Providers. No matter what your political affiliation is, we can all agree that no American should have their internet access limited because of who they get their internet from. Together as Americans, we can tell the FCC not to repeal Net Neutrality, so that everyone can have access to the free internet. Heres what You can do to Help: 1.
