Add a need-based component to Medicaid

My four-year-old daughter Avery has medical conditions so severe that she will need assistance for the rest of her life. When Avery is sick, I quickly find myself drowning in debt and struggling to afford the care she needs. Unfortunately, I make too much to qualify for Medicaid, even though I wouldn’t be able to afford her bills if I made double what I was making now. I am asking the state of Florida to add a need-based component to Medicaid, so that families of loved ones with severe and extremely costly medical conditions can get the healthcare they need without sacrificing their family’s financial security. Families like mine aren’t asking for handouts. Many of us are fortunate enough to have insurance, which covers some of our loved ones’ medical bills. But because we make more than the annual Medicaid income threshold of around $26,000, we are prohibited from getting state assistance, something crucial for families of debilitated children. We are left with two primary choices – hope that our child’s affliction qualifies for the Medicaid Waiver (my daughter does not because her disease is rare) and enter the seven-year long waitlist; or quit working, sacrifice our annual income and family’s well-being in order to qualify for Medicaid. As a single father of three children, I have a responsibility to provide my kids with the best life possible. I cannot do that now, because Florida’s Medicaid program refuses to help me afford Avery’s care for bills that well-exceed the scope of my insurance coverage. How can I keep a roof over my kids’ head,  food on the table, and find a way to save for  their education if the majority of my income is going towards her medical bills? Sadly, my children are the real victims here. I agree that low-income families need help in receiving healthcare, but families who have loved ones with severe and costly disabilities should also be able to get the necessary assistance from Medicaid. I shouldn’t have to quit my job so my daughter can qualify for Medicaid. I shouldn’t be penalized for trying to be a contributor.  That doesn’t help anyone -- not my daughter, my family or society at large.   Please help me change Florida’s Medicaid for the better and ask for a need-based component, so families like mine can take care of their loved ones without sacrificing their family's security.

Remove sub-Asian boxes on Census Form 2020! Stop racist anti-Asian anti-immigrant legacy!

Dear fellow Americans for justice, brothers and sisters against racism, The glaringly racist legacy of sub-Asian boxes on the Census form was started in 1870, after the Burlingame Treaty of 1868, which eventually led to the infamous, racist, and inhumane Chinese Exclusion Act spanning from 1882 to 1943, which among other terrible abominations, banned U.S. residents of Chinese descent from having children or getting married; their family members in Asia were forbidden from entry to U.S. and reuniting as families. The Census form has no "Asian/Asian American" category. In its place are a group of boxes signifying foreign nationalities in Asia as if Asian Americans were all “perpetual foreigners.” It intrusively identified and collected data on which U.S. residents were of Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese...descent. While the Chinese Exclusion Act ended in 1943, did these racist, humiliating, dehumanizing sub-Asian boxes get removed from the Census form? No, they were kept on the Census form by the U.S. government even until today, and if we don't fight back and boycott the Census form with sub-Asian boxes, it will stay on the 2020 Census form and beyond, prolonging a racist American legacy, a shame to all Americans. This legacy treats Americans of Asian descent as perpetual foreigners, and collects intrusive personal ancestral origin data used in many kinds of racial discrimination and persecution. In one example, the U.S. government used information from the Census Bureau to identify native born Americans of Japanese descent and sent them to Internment Camps during the World War II. There were also discriminatory laws against Americans of various Asian descent, such as Filipino. Such horrendous trampling of humanity will happen again unless you and I act now to boycott a 2020 Census form with sub-Asian boxes. We demand these sub-Asian boxes be removed and replaced with one description--"Asian/Asian American." Injustice to one human being is injustice to all human kind. If we don't stop this racist and anti-immigrant legacy, its “logic” and mentality will be repeated in current and future policy-making. Let's keep fighting against racism and improve the human condition step by step. Please join the good fight to make this historically significant change happen for now and forever, by signing this petition and sharing it on social media and by email, word of mouth. Power to the people! Fighting on, Americans against racism and anti-Asian anti-immigrant legacy

Harsh Sentence for Missed Jury Duty: Punish Judge Kastrenakes of Fort Lauderdale Florida!

UPDATE 10/11/2019: There is now a call to investigate Judge Kastrenakes! Several updates have been posted on here following the issue and while Judge Kastrenakes has finally dropped the rest of the charges forced onto Deandre Somerville thanks to public outlash and a few other factors, Kastrenakes still remains indignant about what he’s done, however, now that senator Bobby Powell is on the scene and is seeking the retribution we are all wanting, things look to be quickly turning around! Whether Kastrenakes realizes the gravity of what he’s done or not, justice will be served! Let’s all support senator Bobby Powell in his efforts and continue to sign, share and work on the matter with him! (thank you everyone who has participated in this change! As we grow we give power back to the people and in time justice looks like it will be served but only with the continued push for support! We the people will not stand idly by!) Video showing Bobby Powel calling for an investigation!: Official Palm Beach Post article!: PREVIOUS CALL FOR SUPPORT 10/04/2019: The overkill punishment that this judge placed on a young man by the name of Deandre Somerville is cruel and unusual, it’s disgusting that this was allowed because of a small mistake of sleeping through his alarm! To throw someone in jail, give them a criminal record, force them to do community service, and give him a YEAR LONG PROBATION SENTENCE for simply missing Jury Duty is a gross injustice to enforce on any human being! I could understand a fine at MOST but nothing this outrageous, this man clearly abused his power as a judge and deserves punishment for his actions equal to that of what he sentenced Mr. Somerville for, or he should just be relieved of his position altogether! At the very least this sentence should be dropped and Deandre Somerville’s record scrubbed, they should also retract the fine for the fact that they made him spend 10 days in jail and are forcing him to do community service. This sentence needs to be rectified, we the people will not stand for unfair treatment especially from a system that was supposed to protect and serve the people but instead harasses, often unjustly persecutes the innocent, and seems to protect or limit the punishments given to the guilty! You are not above the law simply because you hold a position of authority! Below is an in depth article on the matter explaining what I mentioned here and more.  Another thing to note is that he is a biased man in other instances as well, he is not someone who should be in power and it seems the idea of his position being called into question has been a topic in the past, as seen in the second article below! I urge everyone to file a complaint against him and anyone who contributed and supported this behavior! There is an official way to file a complaint and if people not only petition but also formally file, we may see an actual change of some sort! Ban LGBTQ+ Conversion Therapy

Conversion therapy in America is a problem that has been ignored for far too long and if left to fester, will continue to harm millions of LGBTQ+ children nationwide.  What is Conversion Therapy? While conversion therapy varies in practice, ranging from physical adverse conditioning to blatant shaming, the lack of scientific proof backing up the usefulness of these practices as well as the long-lasting negative effects are still the same.  Conversion therapy is usually forced onto LGBTQ+ minors by their legal guardians. Studies have shown that children being mistreated for identifying as LGBTQ+ are: 8 times more likely to have attempted suicide 6 times more likely to have reported high levels of depression 3 times more likely to use illegal drugs and 3 times as likely to be at a high risk for HIV and STDS compared to most other children or teenagers their age. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration also calls for the elimination of LGBTQ+ conversion therapy, having once stated “Specifically, conversion therapy—efforts to change an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression —is a practice that is not supported by credible evidence and has been disavowed by behavioral health experts and associations. Conversion therapy perpetuates outdated views of gender roles and identities as well as the negative stereotype that being a sexual or gender minority or identifying as LGBTQ is an abnormal aspect of human development. Most importantly, it may put young people at risk of serious harm.” What We Want While in states such as California, Hawaii, and Rhode Island, the practice of conversion therapy upon children is outlawed, we call for a nationwide ban in America to protect LGBTQ+ youth from the harms conversion therapy inflicts.
