Change.org is searching for a Vice President, Product Management to help us build a new generation of social action and civic engagement tools.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the largest tech platform focused on civic action in the world with 80m monthly users, 50,000 campaigns launched on the site every month, 150 staff, and a new revenue model that has grown by 500% in 2 years. We’re profitable, growing quickly, and our users win campaigns for change once every hour. From strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; to fighting violence against women in India.

You’re a perfect fit for this role if your superpower is hiring, coaching and growing PMs and product teams to be exceptional at the art and science of product management. Your passion is building the culture and systems that enable fast execution, drive incredible outcomes and maintain high performance.

This role is part of Change.org’s executive team and reports to the Chief Product Officer. The VPP will be directly responsible for building, growing and managing a high functioning team of product managers (currently 2 PMs, 3 Sr. PMs, 2 Product Operations, 3 Directors), honing the craft and setting standards for the product management discipline, aligning and coordinating across functions (design, engineering, campaigns, etc), and ultimately ensuring we’re continuously shipping a simple, engaging, delightful and high impact product that empowers hundreds of millions of people, drives massive growth and delivers sustainable revenue.

The most important capabilities for the role are:

  • Team Leadership & Management: Exceptional ability to build and grow high capability product teams, with demonstrated success hiring, coaching, developing and enabling a team of 10+ product managers in a B2C business, ideally in a distributed team environment (we currently have product/eng offices in 3 cities, including one in Europe).
  • Product Strategy & Judgment: Keen insight into and demonstrated success with the strategy and tactics that drive comparable consumer tech properties to succeed, particularly in one or more of the following categories: marketplaces, content/media platforms, sites with high viral/social distribution, social networks.
  • Product Execution: Demonstrated excellence in every stage of the product cycle - product planning, customer discovery, product discovery, product development, analysis and learning as demonstrated through building and shipping multiple consumer web products with clear success and impact.
  • Outcome oriented, driven, impatient: thrive in fast paced, ambiguous environments. Drives for results, highly iterative, always impatient to be delivering bigger results with more effective, faster work.

Additional capabilities we’ll consider:

  • Communications: Strong written and verbal communicator, expert at influencing cross functionally and cross-culturally, including across a distributed workforce (Change.org has 3 prod/dev offices (1 SF, 1 Canada, 1 France) and teams of campaigners supporting petitions on the site in 18 countries.
  • Growth: held a growth role or overseen a growth team.
  • Design / UX: background in design, UX or managed a design team.
  • Data: Superior analytical skills (quant and qual), and/or experience using ML/AI at scale.
  • Social change: actively engaged in social change work in some way; as a part of an advocacy/campaigning organization, a political campaign, a civic tech start up, or similar.
  • In the circumstance that a candidate is exceptionally strong in some of the above disciplines, there’s potential for taking on responsibility for additional teams/functions.

Interested? Great! Here's what you should know: This is a full-time role based in San Francisco, CA (USA) in our office in Potrero Hill. Our team is high impact, low ego, and has an amazing culture to be part of.

We especially encourage applicants of different backgrounds, cultures, genders, experiences, abilities and perspectives to apply. We’re actively working to increase the diversity of experience and perspectives on our product team and are looking for someone who can help continue to lead that process.

Change.org is committed to being a diverse and inclusive workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, or length of time spent unemployed.
