Change.org is the world's largest technology platform for social change. Our goal is to empower people everywhere to start campaigns around the issues they care about, mobilize others, and work with decision makers to drive solutions. We’re also an innovative business – a "social enterprise” and a certified B Corporation, with a business model designed to support positive social impact.

Over 160 million people have started and signed petitions, and our users win nearly one victory per hour, including strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; ending the ban on gay Boy Scouts in the United States, and big wins for women’s rights in India. And we’re just getting started. Here’s a small snapshot of some of the victories our users have had: https://youtu.be/h4O81mgK85E

About the role:
Change.org is seeking a highly-motivated individual for a 3-month contract position (~20 hours/week) starting on March 1. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Change.org’s mission of empowering people everywhere to create the change they want to see, exercise skills in digital engagement, and contribute to user-growth under our animals vertical.

Working closely with the North America campaigns, email, and revenue teams, you will help drive engagement on petitions related to animal protection, including issues affecting wildlife, food and testing industries, and companion animals. You will also work closely with a small team focused on building out Change.org’s newly launched membership program.

Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:

  • Filter and identify compelling petitions on Change.org, and work with petition starters to optimize their petition text, develop strategies around waging their campaign, and work to feature these petitions to Change.org users who care about animals issues
  • Collaborate on tactics to cultivate prospective members who are passionate about animals issues and animals campaigns; help with acquisition and retention efforts to drive membership under the animals vertical
  • Work closely with other marketing experts on the North American team to tell the stories of animals campaigns and of petition starters who start animals campaigns on Change.org
  • Advise organizations on best practices for maximum exposure and impact using Change.org's platform
  • Stay up to date on corporate news, politics, and pop culture to identify opportunities to engage the public in rapid response campaigns

And here are some things that describe you, as well as the skills and experience we hope you have:

  • Strong organization and task management skills, with an ability to follow directions from coworkers without heavy oversight, and to keep track of various tasks that are delegated
  • Knowledge and familiarity about animal protection issues including factory farming, wildlife, animal experimentation, and companion animals
  • Previous experience in grassroots organizing or social activism
  • Experience using social media and digital tools to bolster public engagement and reach broad audiences
  • Some experience in online fundraising or building online membership programs is desirable
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to work remotely -- you will need to be comfortable speaking to petition starters via phone, on video calls, and working with colleagues on video conferences, chat platforms, etc.
  • You are based in San Francisco, New York City, or Washington, DC.

Interested? Great! Here's what you should know:
The is a contract position for an initial 3-month period, working roughly 20 hours a week. There could be a possibility of an extension or renewal depending on performance and success of the program. Candidates must be based in New York, Washington DC, or San Francisco.
