We’re searching for an amazing Head of Design to help us build a new generation of social action and civic engagement tools. If you’ve got:

1. An exceptional ability and passion for the intersection of product design, brand development and communications design.
2. A 360 perspective and demonstrated ability to own and develop a cohesive experience for all our products and brand.
3. A history of inspiring others with your leadership and strong management.
4. A vision for how great design and technology can help people come together, work together, and change the world.

Then stop what you’re doing right now. We need you. We need you to lead our small and mighty team of cross-functional designers, and work alongside some of the world’s most talented activists, campaigners, communicators, technologists and product managers. We’re solving big problems, and we’re looking for someone excited for that challenge.

Now is not the time to sit on the sidelines. Join us — and help empower hundreds of millions of people to have a voice and fight injustice.

Wait, back up a moment. What is Change.org?
With almost 200 million users we’re the world’s largest technology platform for social change. We’re a social impact business, and we’re aiming to build a world where no one is powerless and where creating change is a part of everyday life.

Our team spans 18 countries — and our users win campaigns for change almost once every hour. From strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; ending the ban on gay Boy Scouts in the US; to fighting violence against women in India. We also do everything we can to look after our 150+ staff —competitive salaries, 5 weeks of vacation time, and 18 weeks parental leave are just the beginning. The team themselves are high impact, low ego and incredibly inspiring.

Ok, you’ve intrigued me. Give me some details of the role.

The Head of Design will:

  • Partner with leadership to define the brand and product vision, core metrics, and roadmap.
  • Lead, mentor, support and grow a cross functional design team that includes brand, product, and content designers and managing leads.
  • Own and build a holistic vision of the Change.org brand, across products and platforms, with a clear vision for the visual brand’s future and roadmap.
  • Expand the Change.org style guide, which defines all-company brand and user interface patterns across platforms.
  • Ensure we deeply empathize with and understand our many different users, the problems they’re trying to solve, and build experiences that delight and deliver for them.
  • Define the human-centered processes expected of designers, ensuring teams are delivering great design quickly, predictably, and with appropriately defined scope.
  • Champion design principles across the company and be a steward for the visual brand both internally and externally.

This describes you:

  • You’re a confident and experienced leader and manager. You grow your people and make sure their environment and team processes set them up to build great products.
  • You have demonstrated skill across product design, communications design and brand development.
  • Your design work has contributed to the measurable success of one or more impactful consumer-facing products at scale.
  • You have experience conducting qualitative user research and using data to measure the efficacy of your design.
  • From Sketch to the Adobe suite to whatever you think does the job best, you’re open to many tools, happy to learn new ones, and have enough front-end (HTML/CSS/JS) familiarity to speak the same language as other designers and engineers who shape our style guide.
  • You have the ability to turn complex and overlapping objectives into clearly defined complementary objectives for teams to execute on.
  • You love to collaborate with others, and have strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • You’re ready to put your skills to work for the world's largest platform for social change, empowering people everywhere to create the change they want to see.

I’m sold! What are the logistics? How do I apply?
This is a full-time role based in San Francisco (Potrero Hill).

We're working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We're just getting started, and we hope you'll join us.
