With over 240 million users in 196 countries, Change.org is the world’s largest technology platform for social change. Our team spans 18 countries and empowers hundreds of millions of people to have a voice and fight injustice. We’re a social impact business, and we’re aiming to build a world where no one is powerless and where creating change is a part of everyday life.

We are seeking a highly-motivated and passionate Campaigns Associate for a short-term contract position starting as soon as possible and continuing through December 31, 2018 with the possibility of renewal. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a new pilot program at Change.org, helping spur millions of people to take action in online campaigns, working directly with Change.org users, and thinking through and developing petition text for large nationally-resonant campaigns at the center of popular discourse. If you’ve ever read the news and wished for ways to take action on a particular article or story, this could be the role for you.

Working closely with the North America campaigns team, you’ll regularly have a pulse on the national news cycle, reading the news with an eye toward “what kinds of petitions could exist to take these news stories even further?”. From there you’ll work to find support for these petitions and work to identify leaders and organizers to carry these campaign ideas forward.

Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:

  • Identify extremely compelling and timely online petition moments, and work to develop those ideas into online campaigns;
  • Write compelling petition text that is nationally-resonant, has a strong ask, urgency, and clear and compelling stakes;
  • Reach out to thousands or even hundreds of thousands of Change.org users gauging their interest in these ideas, and their potential to help lead petitions as organizers;
  • Work closely with an excellent team of campaigners, communicators, and email professionals to highlight petitions to Change.org users;
  • Stay up to date on news, politics, and pop culture to identify opportunities to engage the public in rapid response campaigns -- you should definitely be a news junkie!

And here are some things that describe you, as well as the skills and experience we hope you have:

  • Strong writing skills and an ability to turnaround copy very quickly that is compelling and that clearly communicates the stakes of the issue at hand;
  • Strong campaign instincts -- an ability to spot an injustice in the news, and work to identify a solution that people can take action around;
  • A willingness to experiment even when you don’t know all the answers, and a “Let’s try it!” attitude that can help us learn quickly;
  • Experience using social media and digital tools to bolster public engagement and reach broad audiences -- particularly helpful if you’ve placed FB ads and are familiar with targeting FB ads;
  • Rapid response experience where you pivot work quickly because of breaking news, and an ability to work calmly under pressure (while still supported by a very loving team);
  • Strong communications skills -- you will need to be comfortable speaking to Change.org users via email/phone/video calls, and working with colleagues on video conferences, chat platforms (Slack), etc.
  • A passion for sport, celebrity or pop-culture, and more - you’re in touch with the issues and voices that Americans pay attention to.
  • You are based in New York City, Washington, DC, or San Francisco;
  • You like to have fun at work, even when the pace is fast and the energy is electric. You’ll be surrounded by some of the best minds in the social change space, who all have a deep commitment to connecting with one another and serving with passion.

The is a contract position that we hope can start as soon as possible, working roughly 30 hours a week through the rest of the year (December 31, 2018), with the possibility of 40 hours a week of work depending on the candidate. There could be a possibility of an extension or renewal depending on performance and success of the program.

To apply, submit a resume as well as a sample petition you would start on Change.org, and an optional cover letter if you would like. (Applications without a resume and sample petition will not be considered.)

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, or length of time spent unemployed.
