As a Senior/Staff Software Engineer in our Victoria, BC office, you'll be part of the feature team (we call it a squad) responsible for Monetization and Membership. You will work on our major products that drive our revenue.

Today, our Payment Platform needs to be revamped to support our fast scale and to leverage our engineers' productivity.

We’re moving forward to a more decoupled, event-driven architecture approach. You will play a key role in every architecture decision the squad will take.  You will be a major individual contributor building our next Payment Platform that can smoothly integrate new payments flows and new payment providers from any country. We are looking to bring on a Senior Software Engineer or Staff Software Engineer to join our fantastic, Victoria-based team. If you’re interested in relocation, we’d love to talk to you!

A Senior Software Engineer at Change is someone who can work effectively at scale, manages their own priorities and makes appropriate progress with minimal supervision. Typically, Senior Software Engineers have 4-5 years of relevant engineering experience as well as a mastery of one skill outside of pure coding such as monitoring, integration testing or production support.

A Staff Software Engineer at Change is not only able to work effectively and efficiently at scale, but they also set direction and priorities for a small number of adjacent engineers.


What you'll do:

  • Features delivery - work with different technologies, languages and frameworks in all layers of the web stack, from Front-end to Infrastructure As Code
  • Design and build Payment Platform architecture with actual Squad Leads
  • Create seamless payment experiences for our users
  • Integrate new Payment providers
  • Ensure availability and reliability of our services in production
  • Work in an agile development environment (Kanban, iterative development, short release cycles)
  • Drive best engineering practices
  • Contribute to the vision and long-term strategy
  • Test, code, review, monitor!

Required skills:

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Confident with different technologies, languages and frameworks in all layers of the web stack, from frontend to backend
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Significant experience engineering at scale (typically at least 5 years) with 3+ as technical mentor
  • Familiarity in the AWS ecosystem
  • Experience on designing and building performant web architecture

Nice to have skills:

  • Experience on Payment gateways such as Stripe, Braintree & Paypal
  • Experience with Ruby and/or Rails
  • Experience with JavaScript framework (React, Angular, Backbone, Node)
  • Experience with Event-Driven architecture
  • Experience with SQL and data stores (prefer MySQL, Redis, Redshift)
  • Experience with containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure tools like Puppet, Chef or Terraform
