About the role:
The Marketing Manager (Email Engagement and Membership) will be a key member of the North America team at, helping manage the email experience for nearly 20 million active users. This person will serve as a major contributor in developing user engagement strategies in the U.S. and Canada, as well as being a key person who drives’s subscription and membership program in the two countries. They will work closely and collaboratively with a variety of cross-functional teams at the company, including our campaigns, revenue, and communications teams, as well as product and user lifecycle teams. You can expect to be a key player in the future growth of in the U.S. and Canada, and part of a global team with shared values and ambitious goals.

Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:

  • Manage and steer the email experience for nearly 20 million active users -- helping drive impact and engagement in petitions and content across a broad spectrum of issues and campaigns
  • Serve as the lead for the US and Canada’s membership program, helping the team develop and execute on acquisition and retention strategies to grow and sustain’s membership program
  • Edit and approve content drafts for email sent to users, ensuring high-quality storytelling and consistency in standards and brand
  • Develop and execute the email distribution strategy, delicately weighing the ongoing support of a first-class user experience and revenue growth
  • Regularly liaise and collaborate with internal teams (data science, revenue, product, etc.) to support cross-functional needs
  • Track progress to goals -- signatures, memberships, testing pipeline, and revenue from email -- and report out and communicate regularly with the team about results, insights and learnings, using a suite of tracking tools (Chartio, Mixpanel, etc.)
  • Serve as an expert on the action alert tools that are used in North America and help coach others on the team in their usage;

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the email program in the U.S. and Canada is tracking on pace to goals, and reliably serves users high-quality, error-free and consistent content
  • Maintain email production workload, working with numerous stakeholders across the North American team to execute on tactics to meet email engagement and conversion goals
  • Serve as point person in the organization for’s membership efforts in the US and Canada, sharing responsibility for membership acquisition plan, membership retention efforts, email production and execution work related to memberships, managing the setup of post-sign flow offers, reporting, and tracking to goals.
  • Monitor performance of emails and engagement efforts, regularly communicating insights from the work with stakeholders throughout the company, flagging any issues in reporting or send execution to relevant parties
  • Represent US email on revenue calls, serving as a point of contact for the program throughout the company
  • Support the needs of other internal teams, either by way of setting up an email to support a cross-functional goal, attending meetings to provide feedback, or answering questions related to email/our email program.
  • Review recommended petitions for specific audiences, approve subject lines; approve and edit drafts of emails as needed from other members of the North American team;

This describes you:

  • Proficiency in Exact Target or another similar customer relationship management (CRM) tool
  • At least three years experience in delivery of email/digital content to a significant audience
  • Well versed in email marketing and digital advertising tactics and tools
  • Data savvy and highly numerate -- able to work across formats with segmentation, analysis and reporting
  • Experience in monthly giving/online fundraising, membership, sustainer or subscription programs
  • Some experience with donor management programs
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel/Google Spreadsheets is a must
  • Familiar with HTML
  • You have a 'can-do' attitude and are a self-starter not afraid to propose new ideas to test and implement
  • You have a keen eye for the power of story to help drive action and are a strong writer and communicator
  • Experience in either social business, nonprofits or politics is a plus
  • Experience with SQL desirable (though not required)
  • Fluency in French or Spanish would be an amazing asset, but not a requirement (fluency in English is)
