About the role:
Change.org is seeking a DevOps engineer who will be part of the team responsible for deploying, managing, and monitoring our global infrastructure. As a member of our team, you will ensure that activists all over the world can participate in Change.org actions and truly help make an impact on the world! We are facing exponential growth so the scaling and data locality projects are very interesting. In this role you will have the chance to work on our high traffic website and projects related to autoscaling, globalizing, geo-spanning our data, or massively caching the world to bring the information pages closer and closer to our end users all over the world. We built our own stats ingester to be fast enough for our fleet. Our stack allows millions of metrics per second without slowing down.
This position reports to the VP of Infrastructure, Performance & Security. The ideal candidate has experience with infrastructure-as-code environments as well as time in the chair as an operator/troubleshooter. We like true generalists who are comfortable at several different layers in the stack. We are growing rapidly around the globe and there is ample opportunity for each engineer to put their stamp on parts of the architecture.

Here's what you'll do as part of our team:
- Work with constituent engineering teams in building out global service oriented architecture.
- Monitor our front-end nodes, internal services and databases.
- Continuously contribute to and maintain our well architected Chef codebase.
- Help evangelize the ideal DevOps & CI platform with internal teams.
- Participate in our on-call rotation, currently ~1 week in 6.
And here are the skills & experience we hope you have:
- BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years experience in public facing systems operations.
- Experience with AWS.
- Proficient with Linux and Bash.
- Working understanding of firewalls, security groups, and networking.
- Competent with Chef and/or Puppet.
- Experience with MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, Node and/or Rails is helpful.
