Change.org is seeking a highly-motivated Media Campaigner for a 7-month fixed-term contract position starting on June 1 or earlier. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Change.org’s mission of empowering people everywhere to create the change they want to see, exercise skills in communications and media, and support our users in Russia in running incredible campaigns for positive social change.

Working closely with your colleagues in team Russia you will be responsible for ensuring important campaigns started by our users are visible in the media, Change.org is on top of the most important conversations in Russian society and our users' petitions play an important role in national conversations.

Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team: Communication tasks (50%)

  • You will track daily and weekly media coverage of Change.org, and help identify reporters who are covering Change.org from various media outlets
  • Draft and/or review press notes about petitions on Change.org and help distribute them to journalists
  • Build long-standing relationships with key journalists (tier 1 media included); Brainstorm possible news angles for petitions started on Change.org and/or angles we can pitch to reporters about Change.org’s brand
  • Create social media content (mostly written) that can be shared on Change.org’s social media pages; Stay up to date on news, trends, and national conversations to identify opportunities to engage the public in rapid response campaigns
  • Contribute to Change.org's brand communications

Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team: Campaign skills (50%)

  • Work with your teammates to identify campaigns that have the potential to turn into big national stories
  • Find great petitions, both organically created and by reaching out to communities working on social issues who may be unaware of the potential of using Change.org
  • Support petition creators in running great social change campaigns using Change.org, coming up with tactics and helping secure meetings with decision makers to take campaigns to victory
  • Write regularly to produce email copy, blog posts and social media content

  • You have the knowledge and deep interest in the Russian media and political landscape, and know how to get a story to cut through in a busy newsroom
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in Russian
  • Thorough attention to detail -- this role requires accurate tracking of things like media hits, media contact information, and internal reporting on news coverage of Change.org
  • Have experience in media/communications, particularly public relations or reaching out to reporters
  • Some experience developing content for social media; experience with using PR databases;Importantly, you're willing to take risks, fail, and adapt -- and are constantly curious about how to improve your work
  • You've got a strong sense of fun and give-and-take -- our team is constantly pushing the envelope and each other to challenge assumptions, go all-in, and imagine the impossible
