The role:
As a Senior Software Engineer in our San Francisco office, you'll be part of a close-knit functional team of 3-5 engineers. You’ll use your full stack skills to build the Change.org platform, focusing on high-concurrency, microservice-based communication systems. The team is high impact, low ego and incredibly inspiring.


Here’s what you’ll do as part of our team:

  • Effective collaboration within team, with partner groups and across regions
  • Write clean, performant, test-driven code
  • Take ownership of - and be responsible for - results
  • Clearly articulate technical details to a variety of audiences
  • Curiosity and drive to learn
  • Embody a teacher mentality by regularly educating less experienced engineers
  • Effective participation in engineering task estimation
  • Adaptability in the face of new information, requirements or learnings

Required experience and skills:

  • Experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures
  • Experience with SQL and key-value data stores (MySQL, Postgres, Redis, Cassandra)
  • Solid understanding of performance and scalability
  • Understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Understanding of caching strategies
  • Proficiency with Git or other distributed version control systems
  • Experience with frontend development and leading JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience monitoring and debugging production systems
  • Sound understanding of Linux and process management

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with Elixir, Erlang or other functional languages
  • Experience with serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda
  • Experience with Kinesis, Kafka or other real-time data pipelines
  • Experience with event-driven architectures
  • Experience with Ruby/Rails
  • Experience with Node.js
  • Knowledge of Chef or similar configuration management tools
  • Knowledge of additional languages and frameworks
  • Experience in additional software stacks
