Change.org is the world's largest technology platform for social change. Our goal is to empower people everywhere to start campaigns around the issues they care about, mobilize others, and work with decision makers to drive solutions.

Over 150 million people have started and signed petitions, and our users win nearly one victory per hour, including strengthening hate crime legislation in South Africa; fighting corruption in Indonesia, Italy, and Brazil; ending the ban on gay Boy Scouts in the United States, and big wins for women’s rights in India. And we’re just getting started. Here’s a small snapshot of some of the victories our users have had:https://youtu.be/h4O81mgK85E

About the role:
As an Intern, you’ll be joining a team of campaigners who help Change.org petition starters win their campaigns. Our work is fast-paced; you may find yourself on the phone with a petition starter in the morning, writing petition text in the afternoon and scheduling a press note to go out before the end of the day.

Here are the tasks you would be asked to handle in this role:

  • Work with a team of campaigners, media, and email experts to support the people who start petitions on our platform by performing issue research, providing strategic advice, conducting outreach to media and starters, and promoting petitions across the web and to our members via email
  • Support campaigns staff with strategies to escalate campaigns launched on Change.org, and help drive them toward victory
  • Write social media posts and social media drive strategy
  • Prepare drafts of press notes and press releases to support petition starters and the campaigns they start on Change.org
  • Write content for our users to be published on our company blog and to be sent out to our users via email
  • Help identify and manage the most significant campaign opportunities in Italy

And here are the skills and experience we hope you have:

  • A deep commitment to our mission of empowering people everywhere to win campaigns on the critical issues of our time.
  • Some experience working in a professional setting -- preferably (but not required) in the media, with a company, or at a nonprofit.
  • Ability to write compelling and concise text for social media, email, press, and petitions
  • A familiarity and interest in the global media landscape
  • An interest in learning how to powermap a campaign opportunity with an eye toward getting decision makers to respond
  • Strong organization and task management skills, with an ability to follow directions from coworkers without heavy oversight, and to keep track of various tasks that are delegated
  • A strong familiarity with online organizing tactics, including email and social mediaExperience working within diverse and marginalized communities, and a proven track record of success in bringing these issues to the fore in the public discourse
  • A willingness to take risks, fail, and adapt
  • Strong sense of fun, innovation, and give-and-take -- our team is constantly pushing the envelope and each other to challenge assumptions, go all-in, and imagine the impossible

Interested? Great! Here's what you should know:
The job is often driven by a campaign cycle, so there are times that involve long hours and times that don’t. Our culture recognizes both the needs of campaigns and the need for rest and for our staff to have a life. We are results-oriented – nobody is working just to punch the clock. Really. Our work environment is exceptionally fast-paced, collaborative, and supportive. Your co-workers are high-impact, low-ego, and have a deep respect for our members. We expect you to be the same.

This is a contract position for an initial six month period, based in Rome.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, age, physical disability, or length of time spent unemployed. We are working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We're just getting started, and we hope you'll join us.
