The TEMBÉ Project

Currently, the Tembé people live in the areas of Brazil called the Alto Rio Guamá, Turé-Mariquita, Acará-Miri and Urumateua, on the banks of the Gurupi, Guamá, Capim and Acará rivers, in the North East section of the state of Pará.

location : Brazil
missionaries : Paulo & Quezia Oliveira
partner organization : Missão ALEM (site in Portuguese)
amount needed : $4000 left to raise to finish project
project to begin : June 2006
length of project : 1.5 years

The people are divided into 6 tribes and speak the Tembé language, of the Tupi language family. Their population is estimated at 860 persons. See Ethnologue entry for the Tembé.

Paulo and Quézia Oliveira have spent the last 14 years working with the Tembé people and are now finishing up the New Testament translation in the Tembé language.

The translation is now in its final stages. Final verification has been completed on 75% of the New Testament and Paulo and Quézia are working hard to conclude the work so that the Word of God can be placed into the hands and hearts of the Tembé people.

But funds are lacking for necessary expenses. To that end, WordWinds International has accepted the responsibility of funding the final year of the project. With your support we can make it happen.
