The Voice Young Video Journalist — After School Project
Vineyard Voice, in cooperation with Featherstone Center for the Arts, MVTV and The Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School has created a collaborative initiative, the Island Youth Video Journalism Project, to help local non profit organizations produce public interest video stories. The initiative will teach interns to shoot, produce and publish video stories for distribution on the Voice, the websites of the organizations, on MVTV and syndicated throughout the web.
The YVJ After School Project will coordinate efforts with Featherstone, MVTV and island schools to bring kids a "community newsroom" and the ability to develop and hone their shooting, writing editing and producing skills. The Voice is training the new generation of citizen journalists on Martha's Vineyard.
In the Summer of 2009, Vineyard Voice, Featherstone, MVPCS and MVTV are teaming up to provide kids summer internships. The YVJ Summer Project recently received a generous grant for equipment and operations that kick starts the Young Video Journalist Project.
Please help the YVJ Project serve island kids and continue to create a flourishing citizen media on Martha's Vineyard.
