AID DARFUR: Darfur displaced need clean water

Darfur displaced need clean water
Dear Refugee Supporter,
Just two weeks ago, we set a goal to raise $20,000 by October 25 to help the UN Refugee Agency continue providing essential life-saving services to the victims of Darfur.
With your generous support, we are half way to our target! With only need $9,400 to meet our original goal.
One of the most important components of the UN Refugee Agency’s humanitarian aid program is the provision of clean water.
Darfur is in one of the most arid parts of the world. Without access to clean water, displaced families are left highly susceptible to dehydration and water-borne illnesses, like diarrhea and cholera. The risks are especially high for children.
The UN Refugee Agency seeks to provide 15 liters of safe, clean water per day to those in its care. UNHCR staff work against the clock to locate potential water sources, drill new wells, install distribution centers and build water purification systems. In extreme cases, UNHCR even trucks in water from hundreds of miles away.
$90 helps repair damaged pipes and water storage facilities.
$160 covers the cost of full medical check-ups for 48 refugee children who may need care due to drinking contaminated water.
$500 sinks two wells to provide safe water.
Thank you for responding to the needs of so many.
Sincerely,
J. Michael Coburn
Acting Executive Director
USA for UNHCR
