Many anti-poverty and hunger organizations are hampered by bureaucracy and fail to effectively engage local actors to empower them to address the systemic problems to cause hunger and malnutrition issues.  The Hunger Project has none of these drawbacks, and is at the forefront of the movement to help communities help themselves rather than relying on unpredictable, intermittent outside aid.
