We're excited about our brand new partnership with Wells for Life to dig wells in India. We're starting off by funding 10 wells in some of India's poorest areas. We'll have pictures, GPS fixes, and updates posted on our site within weeks as the wells are dedicated. See our Wells for India project page for more info.

    Published February 04, 2009 @ 12:06PM PT

We’re excited about the launch of our improved system for updating you on the work we’re doing together. Check it Out Here We are now able to get information out to you much quicker than before, and we’ll be using these new tools to make shorter, more timely updates, much more often.  Our goal is to make you a part of the story as it unfolds…not just at the beginning and the end. We’re working with our partners in the field to get pictures from each step in the water project process, whenever they can.  We’re also asking that GPS fixes be sent as soon as possible.  You’ll notice that we’ve got Google Maps integrated into updates now too so that you can see where the work is happening in the world. You can subscribe t... Read More

  4. A Tip of the Hat to A True Olympic Champion and Supporter

    Published August 15, 2008 @ 05:25PM PT

I am thrilled that one of the greatest Olympic runners, Dave Wottle, and his gracious wife have recently provided financial support to the Road to Change project. First and foremost, thanks for the people of Kalimani who will benefit by receiving clean water. Secondly, Dave has inspired countless runners with his amazing gold-medal performance in the 1972 Olympic games. I remember watching the race where he was wearing his famous golf cap, which is now in U.S. Track and Field Hall of Fame, coming from the back of the field to out kick the Kenyan runners, which is unheard of today. Dave's win in the 800m is one of the most inspiring runs I have ever seen. You can see the video of his classic win here . You don't have to be a runner to appreciate this gutsy performance. Dave won by runn... Read More

  5. 100 People, 100 Miles

    Published July 15, 2008 @ 07:08AM PT

We’ve crossed the century mark!  In just a short time you have helped gather together a bunch of new faces and a few of our long time supporters too.  It’s a real encouragement to have everyone along for this ride.   Along the way this month we’ve met some great folks.  Two stand out.  Rumaldo O. and Charles H. have both stepped up and created active fundraising campaigns of their own here on Change.    Rumaldo is reaching out to his network of friends and connecting them to our community.  He’s also selling t-shirts and encouraging his friends to give.  It’s already making an impact!   Charles is running…a long, long way - 100 miles in 30 hours or less (we bet less).  You can join C... Don't forget to check the website - TheWaterProject.org - every so often for new updates and project info.  You can see lots of pictures from our most recent trip to Kenya now posted on the various water project pages throughout our site. In fact, every picture on our site was taken by our crew or our partners in the field.

  7. Turning over the keys

    Published June 30, 2008 @ 12:01PM PT

For so long, non-profits have been about a few key folks leading a (hopefully) large group of people along a well worn path of fundraising and advocacy.  But what if a non-profit asked and even expeceted its members to do the leading?  What if the organization's role was truly one of support? The Water Project is ready for this grand experiment.  We're looking for individuals who have been inspired to act on the issues of clean water.  We want to educate and motivate, but honsetly we don't really want to lead.  We see the limits of leading.  If on the other hand, our supporters lead and discover and make mistakes and then succeed...we think there's something there.  The most inventive ideas, fundraisers and even methods of story telling seem to be c... 8. Meeting new folks

    Published June 26, 2008 @ 06:16PM PT

The great thing about a community like this is meeting new folks who we otherwise might never have come across.  The power of networking like this can't be underestimated.  Some of the most successful efforts finding support for a water project have come from someone who emailed someone who IM'd someone else, etc. Without our supporters like you we simply can't make that happen.  So, the next time you think sending an invite is a waste of time, or a low impact event...think of the 250 girls at the Makivenzi Girls School in Kenya who now have clean water because a total stranger to us got involved online...

  9. Just Getting Started

    Published June 25, 2008 @ 05:30PM PT

Our new community is online!  Since we began, as a small group of passionate water advocates, we've done a good job of connecting lots of folks offline. Now we want to continue these projects and conversations where everyone can benefit. The Water Project's goal is to create a network of supporters and NGOs who are working together to being clean water to those in need.  We envision a day when the water project communities themselves will participate through text messaging and other technologies available "in the field." We're glad you're here.  Together we'll get off to a great start.
