TALL SHIP EDUCATION ACADEMY

Julia Brooks

Hi! My name is Julia Brooks. I am sixteen years old and I live in the small town of Brisbane, California. I currently attend Oceana Highshool, but this spring I will be attending and participating in the Tall Ship Education Academy for Girls. It is a program where 15 Bay Area girls meet and learn all about oceanography, navigation and the Caribbean in order to get ready for one the biggest adventures of their lives: a six week sailing trip in the Caribbean (not to be mistaken for a cruise). I am very excited and it is such a privilege to experience this journey! This is the first such opportunity presented to me and I think it is so important. It is not an opportunity to go to a fancy hotel or a shopping spree, but an opportunity to see who I am and change myself as a person. By going on this trip I hope to learn more about sailing, the world, and the great things myself and others are capable of doing.
*The Tall Ship Semester for Girls will set sail on March 17, 2009 for a voyage of over 2,000 nautical (straight line) miles.  This voyage costs $3 per mile per student!  Sponsor a student and help her pay for this experience of a lifetime. Here's what you do:

If you want to sponsor a specific student, please follow the instructions below after choosing the student's fundraising icon.

1.  Choose a leg of the trip you want to sponsor.  The mileage breakdown is as follows:
   a) San Juan, PR to Tortola: 100 miles
   b) Tortola to Dominica: 300 miles
   c) Dominica to Dominican Republic: 600 miles
   d) Dominican Republic to Great Inagua (Bahamas): 300 miles
   e) Great Inagua to Florida: 825 miles
Example: I will choose the San Juan to Tortola leg

2.  Decide how much money you will sponsor per mile of the voyage leg.
Example: I will sponsor the San Juan to Tortola leg for $.50/mile

3.  Calculate your total donation.
Example: 100miles * $.50/mile = $50

4.  Make your donation; when you are asked to give the donation in someone's name, type in the leg that you sponsored.

Sponsor Benefits! All sponsors of TSSG students will receive a postcard and/or email from the student when she completes the leg of the trip you sponsored.  In addition, the Tall Ship Education Academy will invite you to several events where you can meet our students and hear about their experiences.  Invitations to events will be mailed or emailed to you.I will be setting sail with the Tall Ship Semester for Girls on March 17, 2009 for a voyage of over 2,000 nautical (straight line) miles.  This voyage costs $3 per mile per student!  Please consider sponsoring me for a leg of my voyage!  Here's what you do:
