Take the "Box City" Pledge
In 2009, the Paradise Valley Community College Emerging Leaders Level I Students launched the campuses' first Box City Project Demonstration to raise awareness about the growing epidemic of homeless and poverty in the United States.
During the event students, faculty, staff and community members took a pledge to recognize the value of all human life and to be part of the solution.
Over $1,200 in cash and hundreds of clothing items donated at the event were given to St. Vincent De Paul's homeless program in Phoenix, Arizona.
You can take the pledge as well:
To see every person as a person, and say good morning.
To buy a hot meal for someone who's asking for spare change.
To take time out of your day to help others in need.
This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

As a child growing up in a poor family (my dad suffered an incurable disease), I have fond memories of good samaritans
sharing baskets full of goodies for the holidays. and other times throughout the year. Margaret holds a very special place in my heart. She gave me a ballerina doll from her boutique. It had a broken foot (most likely fell off a shelf in her store). I nursed her back to health with lots of loving play time, and still have that doll, some 55 years later. It's a reminder to me to be kind and give to others, for as Jesus said, "What you do for the least of my brothers, you do unto
me."

I believe that all people should be treated with dignity and respect and that it is up to all of us to help someone in need. I also believe in "paying it forward."

I have been blessed through these trying times. I choose to share my blessings with others who are in need. They are my sisters and brothers. I will do what I can to support them while they go through this difficult time as others have done for me when I was down. There but for the grace of God go I.

It's very hard to find a job when you have no place to live.
