Come see "The Soloist" with St. Vincent de Paul: April 28th
April 28th, 2009: 6:00PM - HARKIN'S SHEA 14
"No One Changes Anything by Playing it Safe"
See Steve Lopez's wonderful story about his journey with Nathaniel Ayers, a musical artist with schizophrenia finding himself homeless and playing music on the street. Lopez, a columnist for the Los Angeles Times, is stopped one day on his way home by a man making beautiful music on a violin with just two strings.
Amazed to find out that Nathaniel was once a promising young student of Juliard, Steve reaches out to help Nathaniel and better understand how he has come to this point in his life. This is the inspiring story of thier journey through skid row, doctors and mental health professionals, homeless shelters and the L.A. Symphony.
Steve Lopez's nationally acclaimed book has been made into a feature film starring Jamie Foxx as Nathaniel and Robert Downey Jr. as Steve Lopez. The story of The Soloist and the making of the movie was recently highlighted by 60 Minutes.
