Stop Ignoring the Issues of Sexual Abuse
Like our spokesperson, LaQuisha Hall, and Stop the Silence volunteers, pledge to share you knowledge of sexual abuse by learning and sharing the following information with people that you encounter everyday:
1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18.
1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18.
1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet.
Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under.
An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today.

This is important because there are children in the world that have been abused that will become adults that struggle with the shame and guilt that does not belong to them. Sexual abuse is pain. It can ruin an innocent life.

Listen to children...too often when they try to tell a trusted adult that they have been abused, they are misunderstood, ignored or punished for lying. A 2-4 year old girl may not know the word penis, so she may say she is being hurt by a big thumb. A caring adult has to listen very carefully to make the connection, then take action on the child's behalf.

Children and animals are innocent and once that innocence is stolen it can never be given back. Much like time that one gives, that too cannot be given back.
Victoria Kelly Conroe, TX @ 01:28PM PT May 09
Because we can not even beginn to deal with the problem and find solutions when so many are in denial that it even exists, and exists on such a large scale! To the children still waiting for help, we are trying to get to you and find the safety you need. for those who have already died, we are sorry we took so long!
Jaime Tamez Los Ranchos, NM @ 09:13PM PT Apr 02
As I deal with family homelessness I find that, due to unsafe living conditions, child sexual abuse is occurring with some families.
We must do all we can to prevent it.
Marcella Chester Rochester, MN @ 09:12AM PT Feb 20
This is important and not only for child victims since part of this effort involves educating children and adults about personal boundaries and the fact that the absence of stereotypical force and stereotypical expressions of horror from the victim don't mean that consent had to be present.
