Mission
Saving Shelter Pets strives to eliminate euthanasia as a method of population control for homeless companion animals, by providing no-kill alternative solutions and proactively addressing the problem of pet overpopulation.
Programs
Rescue & Transport – moves animals out of crowded, high-kill shelters and into no-kill rescues. Animals are fully vetted after leaving the shelter, quarantined to ensure their health, then moved to rescue using licensed, professional transporters.
Puppy Promises – unwanted litters of puppies are fostered in a home rather than entering the shelter system. When they are old enough, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations and travel to no-kill rescues through the Rescue & Transport program. All dogs and cats in the puppies’ original household receive spay/neuter surgeries (cost provided by SSP) to prevent future litters.
Spay/Neuter – provides financial assistance for spay/neuter surgeries for pets in low-income households. Pet owners in targeted counties are given certificates for discounted surgeries. Also, sponsorship is prov ided for special spay/neuter events throughout the year.
Bernies’ Buddies – provides funding to cover the cost of treatment (vetting and boarding) for dogs in the Rescue & Transport program that are Heartworm positive.
