Mission
The Roseville Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Roseville, California.
Programs
The Roseville's Historical Society runs the Carnegie Museum in historic old-town Roseville. Located at 557 Lincoln St in Roseville's 1912 Carnegie Library building, the museum is open weekdays 12 - 4 pm. Free admission.
School and group tours of the museum and Roseville's historic downtown are available by appointment. There is no fee.
Speakers for outreach are also available.
History
The Society was organized in 1982 when the city's 1912 Carnegie Library building was closed as a library. The idea to put a local museum in the building caught on, and after renovation, the museum opened in 1986.
Things We Do
We work with the City of Roseville and several local Veterans groups to promote and improve Roseville's Veterans Memorial Park.
The Society also sponsors veterans events including Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Pearl Harbor Day celebrations in concert with the City and other organizations.
The Society also owns a steam locomotive, currently on display at the north end of Vernon Street, next to the Roseville Rail Yard, and near the approximate site of the "junction" - the original crossing of the Central Pacific Railroad and the California Central Railroad lines, that was the foundation of Roseville's history.
The Society has published several small books on Roseville history, available by contacting the museum.
City Centenary
The City of Roseville was incorporated on April 15, 1909. In celebration of the city’s 100th anniversary, there will be many events sponsored and co-sponsored by the Society.
To kick off the year, the city and chamber of commerce have a float in the Rose Parade – what could be more fitting for Roseville? The float features a replica of the Society’s steam locomotive, SP 2252.
