Pneumonia is the #1 killer of children. Every 15 seconds a child dies from pneumonia. For the first time we have new vaccines to prevent these deaths and antibiotics to treat pneumonia - BUT THEY DO NOT REACH THE WORLD'S POOREST CHILDREN. We can change that! By creating a global movement to get these vaccines and medicines to places like Africa, Asia and Central and South America our generation can be the ones who beat pneumonia. World Pneumonia Day on November 2nd is your chance to save a life - join us.
World Pneumonia Day
Dear Representative
Somewhere in the world a child dies from pneumonia every 15 seconds. More than 2 million little ones die every year making pneumonia the #1 killer of children - more than AIDS, malaria and measles combined.
It doesn't need to be this way anymore.
For the first time we have two new vaccines - the pneumococcal and Hib vaccines - that can prevent a majority of pneumonia cases in children. Antibiotics are effective in treating pneumonia and they are relatively inexpensive. Breastfeeding and reducing air pollution make a child less vulnerable to catching pneumonia.
But these new vaccines and medicines are not reaching the world's poorest children.
That's why we are asking you to support World Pneumonia Day on November 2nd 2009 to send a message to the world that we have an unprecedented opportunity to end pneumonia's reign as the #1 killer of children.
Please support World Pneumonia Day. Make a speech about it!
