Wild Rabbits Being Shot by Hired Gunman At Palmia Retirement Community-California

The Issue

The City of Mission Viejo officials have given the go ahead to homeowners association in a gated retirement community  to control its rabbit population by shooting the animals with pellet guns.  One petition was sent to the Major Pro Tem who at first refused to acknowledge the petition by calling it a prank because there were signatures from around the world and that the name of the retirement community was spelled wrong, then he acknowledged the petition by saying that he had a list of over 800 residents that were extremely happy with their plan.  On August 10 he  also said that it was now up to the Palmia Retirement Home Owners Association to stop the eradication effort, not the City Council.  No wildlife experts were ever contacted regarding the impact of the cull on other wildlife species that also live in the area and depend on the Wild Rabbits for survival.  The President of the Palmia Homeowners Association said it was "Disturbing that (the issue of the rabbits keeps coming up).  According to one resident, the President of the Homeowners Association also told the residents that he intends on having all rabbits killed.
