The transport of coal, proposed by the Washington State Legislature, will be harmful to the communities through which coal trains travel, due to the harmful effects of coal dust on health. Renewable energy is less detrimental to the environment and the health of our communities than energy obtained by burning fossil fuels. Additionally, renewable energy development and manufacture in the State of Washington will create sustainable economic growth. Therefore, we support legislation in favor of the development of cleaner, more sustainable forms of energy to be used in the State of Washington, including House Bill 1144 of the 2012 Regular Session of the Washington State Legislature, and the Solar Manufacturing in Washington component of the current Jobs Package.
