In Vancouver Magazine's recently released Holiday Gift Guide 2010, their "essential guide to giving the Perfect Gift," includes a piggy bank made out of a real taxidermied piglet.

Winnipeg Humane Society noted that, "While animals are routinely killed for their meat and hides, this is a particularly callous and demeaning exploitation of a baby animal's dead body. It trivializes the life (and death) of a sentient being."

The dead piglet is advertised alongside socially responsible gifts like vegan handbags, reusable organic cotton shopping bags, and eco-friendly journals. It's unlikely that very many orders will be placed with thecheeky.com for the $4,000 carcass, but by including it in their list of gift ideas to "win friends and influence people," Vancouver Magazine is sending the message that dead baby animals are nothing more than novelty gifts.

Tell Vancouver Magazine to pull the taxidermied piglet bank from their Holiday Gift Guide.

I recently read on Change.org about the taxidermied piglet bank included in your Holiday Gift Guide 2010.

I was appalled to see such an insensitive item advertised alongside socially responsible gifts like vegan handbags, reusable organic cotton shopping bags, and eco-friendly journals. By including the piglet banks in your gift guide, Vancouver Magazine is sending the message that dead baby animals are nothing more than novelty gifts.

Please remove the taxidermied piglet bank from your gift guide and promote compassion, not cruelty, this holiday season.
