From the National Anti-Vivisection Society: "The U.S. House of Representatives passed The Captive Primate Safety Act, H.R. 80, on February 24, sending it to the Senate for their consideration. This bill would stop interstate commerce in primates for the exotic pet trade, although it would not impact individuals currently keeping primates as pets. It will end the trafficking in primates for the pet trade and will spare monkeys and chimpanzees in the future from inadequate and inhumane living conditions, while protecting people from serious injury and deadly disease."

YES to the Captive Primate Safety Act
Honorable Senator,
I write in support of the Captive Primate Safety Act (H.R. 80 in the House), which would end the trafficking in primates for the pet trade. The House approved this bill in July 2009, but the Senate has failed to take any action on this bill for an entire year.
Commercial trafficking in "pet" primates is exceptionally dangerous. While chimpanzees, monkeys, and other primates appear small and sweet as babies, these animals grow to be much stronger than humans. Aside from being able to inflict serious injury with bites and scratches, primates can also carry deadly diseases like Herpes B, salmonella, tuberculosis, and Ebola. Over the past decade, at least 100 people, 29 of whom were children, have been injured by captive primates.
There is still time for the Senate to consider—and pass—this bill. May I count on your swift action to enact this important measure?
Thank you for your kind consideration - I anticipate your reply.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
