How We Won

Nov 19, 2010

On November 19, 2010, Congress passed the final version of the Animal Crush Video Prohibition Act. When President Obama signs this bill into law, it will replace the crush video ban that had been overturned by the Supreme Court in April. The industry had all but disappeared during the 10 year ban on the videos and the quick passage of this new act will help stop it before there's a resurgence of this cruel commerce.

UPDATE: The House has sent a final bill to President Obama's desk for his signature!

On September 28, the U.S. Senate passed a bill banning crush videos - graphic depictions of animal cruelty created and produced to appeal to a certain sexual fetish. The Senate's bill is similar to, but stronger than, a similar House measure.

Now, the U.S. House has an opportunity to end crush videos in America forever, by passing the stronger Senate version and sending it to the President to sign without delay.

We're calling on the House to do that, and send this bill to President Obama as soon as possible.

Send a strong ban on crush videos to the President's desk

Greetings,

As an animal lover, I appreciate the hard work of members of the House over the summer in creating and passing a ban on "crush videos" with H.R. 5566. As you probably know, the Senate has also passed a version of your bill, with stronger language that affords even more protections for animals who are victimized and exploited by this inhumane practice.

Among the changes in the Senate bill are: a ban on not just distributing, but creating crush videos; a ban on distribution of crush videos produced overseas; and a way to prosecute those who produce such videos and distribute them for free on the Internet. It's a stronger bill, and provides more ways for law enforcement to end this cruel practice forever.

I hope you'll continue the good work that the House has done on this important issue by passing the Senate version and sending it to the President without delay.
