URGENT: Texas HOA Reportedly Trucking Wild-Caught Deer to Slaughterhouse

The Issue

In Walden on Lake Conroe, a residential neighborhood in Montgomery, Texas, resident deer are reportedly being netted and then hauled several hours away—fully conscious—to a slaughterhouse! Last year, PETA contacted community officials after receiving reports of this exceedingly cruel practice. They urged them to swear off this program and provided information on humane and effective nonlethal deer-management methods. However officials appear to have no intention of stopping the nightmarish program.

Every minute spent entangled in netting is a terrifying eternity for these easily frightened prey animals. But then to subject them to the horror of transport inside jostling trucks, rife with loud noises, vibrations, and the smell of fear, is grossly inhumane by every common measure! For these wild animals, nothing could be less natural—and little could be worse. And captured deer aren't the only victims: Mass killings tear families apart and leave young and weak animals vulnerable to starvation, dehydration, and predators. Furthermore, lethal methods don't work to control unwanted animal populations in the long run. As long as the areas remain attractive and accessible, more will move in from surrounding areas to fill the newly vacant niche, and surviving does will breed at an accelerated rate, causing the population to increase!

This community is engaged in a vicious killing cycle in which countless animals will die needlessly. Please ask Walden on Lake Conroe officials to halt this cruel program.
