Concerned citizens of the world are troubled by President Obama's lack of commitment to equal rights for gay Americans.  His silence which has been replaced by his firm stance to defend DOMA in federal court, to suggest that banning gay marriage is good for the federal budget, and further to suggest that same gender marriage is like incest and marrying children harm, not help a significant segment of our nation.

Tell President Obama that his current actions and words  betray him.

Tell President Obama that his behavior is incomprehensible and unexpected to the American citizens who had faith in him and who cast their vote for him.

Remind President Obama of these words which he wrote:

“For many practicing Christians, the inability to compromise may apply to gay marriage. I find such a position troublesome, particularly in a society in which Christian men and women have been known to engage in adultery or other violations of their faith without civil penalty. I believe that American society can choose to carve out a special place for the union of a man and a woman as the unit of child rearing most common to every culture. I am not willing to have the state deny American citizens a civil union that confers equivalent rights no such basic matters as hospital visitation or health insurance coverage simply because the people they love are of the same sex--nor am I willing to accept a reading of the Bible that considers an obscure line in Romans to be more defining of Christianity than the Sermon on the Mount.”  (The Audacity of Hope, by Barack Obama,  p.222-3 Oct 1, 2006).

Urge President Obama to follow through with his promises to LGBT Americans.

Repeal DOMA

Dear Presidnet Obama,

As a concerned citizen of the United States, I am troubled by your lack of commitment to equal rights for gay Americans. Your silence which has been replaced by your firm stance to defend DOMA in federal court, to suggest that banning gay marriage is good for the federal budget, and to further suggest that same gender marriage is like incest and marrying children harm, not help a significant segment of our nation.

Your current actions and words betray you, President Obama. Your behavior is incomprehensible and unexpected to the American citizens who have faith in you and who cast their vote for you.

Do you remember these words which you wrote:

Each day many Americans remain second-class citizens, unequal in the eyes of the law, unprotected by the law, and victims of terrible hate crimes often inspired by religious fundamentalism.

I urge you Mr. President to follow through with your promises to LGBT Americans.

I know that you affirm the notions of democracy and freedom so you must rise to the occasion and champion for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all American citizens. I believe in you Mr. President.

Yours sincerely,
