What would be a great way to ring in the new year? Seeing yet another Utah city/municipality enact anti-discrimination protections inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity. Perhaps Ogden, Utah will be the one to make this happen.
In April 2010, a measure protecting LGBT citizens from discrimination on the job and in regards to housing was put forward for the City Council and mayor to consider. Now activists are hoping to move the measure forward, and it's critical to get Ogden's mayor, Matthew Godfrey, on board.
Please send the Mayor a message, urging him to get behind an inclusive anti-discrimination ordinance.
Please support anti-discrimination ordinance
Dear Mayor Godfrey,
The city of Ogden, Utah is looking at a potential anti-discrimination ordinance that would include workplace and housing protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender citizens of Ogden. I urge you to support this measure.
Ten cities/municipalities in Utah have passed non-discrimination ordinances that include protections for LGBT people. For many, this is a basic question of fairness. No one should face losing their job because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and no one should worry about losing their home or apartment because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
As you prepare to meet with leaders in the state of Utah, and/or debate this measure with the City Council, I hope you come to the same conclusion that no one should face discrimination in terms of housing or holding a job because of who they are.
Thank you for your time.
