Why This Is Important

This year 1.2 million girls and boys were victims of child trafficking.

That means they were taken from their families. Sold into slavery. Forced to work 7 days a week with dangerous equipment. They endured beatings, malnutrition, and other abuse. Girls are especially exploited: sold as “mail order brides,” forced into prostitution, and brutalized and raped by their “employers.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed her commitment to stop human trafficking, but we need her continued help to make this issue a global priority.

Sign our petition below urging Secretary Clinton to help end human trafficking by spreading awareness and working with world leaders.

Please continue your commitment to end human trafficking

Dear Secretary Clinton,

This year 1.2 million children were kidnapped or sold into slavery or prostitution. Every girl and boy should be protected from exploitation, but right now children around the world, especially young girls, are daily victims of sexual violence, forced labor, and imposed marriage.

I urge you to continue your important work to protect children from human trafficking by:

• Spreading awareness of human trafficking by including it as a key part of upcoming speeches and responding to tragedies in the news;

• Encouraging the work of organizations and countries that are making progress in ending human trafficking; and

• Discussing this issue with key leaders of countries who are known for human trafficking violations, as well as other forms of violence against women and girls, and insisting that these leaders follow the recommendations in the 2009 Trafficking in Persons Report.

Thank you for your support and please continue your commitment to end human trafficking.
