Earlier this year, animal advocates, agriculture interests, and state officials in Ohio created a compromise measure that would require Ohio farmers to observe a basic set of humane standards in how they treat their livestock.
Now, with a new governor and new agriculture director, Ohio officials are talking about reneging on their deal and throwing the compromise away.
Tell incoming agriculture chief Jim Zehringer to honor the commitment made by his predecessor and enact common sense reforms for livestock.
Honor Ohio's Commitment to Livestock
Greetings,
I'm writing to ask you to honor the agreement brokered earlier this year between Ohio officials, the Humane Society of the United States, and the Ohio Farm Bureau, guaranteeing a minimal standard of humane treatment for Ohio livestock.
The reforms agreed to in this compromise between government, industry, and animal advocates are not extreme, indeed they're simple common sense, as well as good farm management practices.
More importantly, the government of Ohio made a commitment to see these reforms through. I hope you'll maintain that commitment.
