Football is more than a game to people. For some it is a passion, an escape, a way of life. It is the only game that from the streets of Brazil, to an isolated pitch in the Congo, to Wembley Stadium, the rules never change. It is truly a universal game and one that can ultimately bring American fans closer to international supporters. We have made much advancement in the game but the rest of the world is yet to accept us fully. The U.S. soccer pyramid has many leagues on many different levels. American soccer is ready for a promotion and relegation system. The “American Model” of sports rankings offers no incentive for players or supporters. Why would I watch certain MLS franchises when historically they are inferior to many of the other squads? They have no fear of relegation and do not care whether their fans come or not. This is a major flaw with MLS as it is in other American sporting leagues. This petition is to call for reform in the American soccer system at all levels. We, the supporters, understand that it is a business. Nevertheless, that has not stopped every other major country from having pro/reg. We ask simply that you give careful and genuine consideration to reforming U.S. soccer and the position that the MLS holds in regards to its teams.
