Why should Americans have to pay for research that we never get to see? This bill before the U.S. Congress would ban public access to research funded with taxpayer money. Nearly every article in the PubMed database would disappear, making the cure for cancer and other diseases less accessible, but that is only a tiny part of currently accessible research that would disappear from public access if this bill passes. The only ones who seem to benefit from the bill are publishers, who just happen to be sponsoring the bill and who feel entitled to profit even more than they are already from publicly funded research.
