Tony The Truck Stop Tiger

Tony is a nine year old Siberian/Bengal tiger who has lived his whole life at a truck stop in Grosse Tete Louisiana. His home is one of concrete and steel, amid the deafening noise and noxious fumes of cars and trucks 24 hours a day. It is angering as well as sad to see this majestic cat pacing back and forth in his steel prison with people staring at and taunting him constantly. A sign is even posted to remind people not to throw things at him. ...

A 1993 Iberville Parish County ordinance prohibits the display of wild exotic animals, and wild or exotic animals as pets, but this law was never enforced and unfortunately was amended at the last council meeting on March 17th 2009.

Dear Tony the Tiger

I am writing to you on behalf of all children and adults around the world and bring your attention to an animal welfare issue that is going on in Grosse Tete, LA 70740. The animals name is Tony, yes that is correct just like yours, and he is 10 years old living in a concrete cage breathing in noxious fumes of gas from all the trucks. I am sure his paws are hurting being on the concrete for so long. His has a little den where he is able to sleep in. However in the past week, we have learned that he has been defecating the area as well as urinating in this area. Tony, I am sure you know that you would never go where you sleep. So you must be asking yourself what can I do to help get my brother out of jail.

There are a couple of cat sanctuaries that are willing to take him. One is Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, Florida and the other one is Tiger Haven in Tennennesse. We are needing an advocate to speak on behalf of him, as his owner Michael Sandlin, is unwilling to give him up. We need pressure and media attention put on Iberville Parrish. We have before and after pictures of Tony, and he has lost a tremendous amount of weight. There used to be a white tiger that Michael owned, one day it disappeared and it came back stuffed and now sits on top of the buffet table inside the truck stop.

Tony you are so loved around the world and we believe in our hearts and soul that you will be able to help release your brother Tony the truck stop tiger and send him to a sanctuary. Otherwise, we feel he may die. Please consider helping our cause.
