We want Michigan lawmakers to consider a new, high-tech approach to monitoring sex offenders and domestic abuse offenders. The GPS tracking of these offenders would save Michigan taxpayers money and protect the citizens of this great state.

The tracking device - likely in the form of an ankle bracelet - would allow law enforcement to pinpoint the exact location of any offender at anytime.

The cost of this monitoring would be incurred by the offender. We want this GPS tracking device to be named “The Venus Cuff", honoring Venus Rose Stewart a mother, sister, daughter and friend whose life could have been saved with this technology.

For Michigan to make a law requiring GPS tracking for person's named on a protective order.

Venus Rose Stewart did everything a mother could do to protect her children. Venus had a police escort from Virginia to the airport, to return her, and her children, to family in Michigan. Venus had a protective order from the court in Michigan to keep her estranged husband, Douglas Harrie Stewart, away from them. Venus went to court in Michigan and got custody of her children. Venus died a week later. Her estranged husband kidnapped and killed her. Her family cannot find Venus' body. While nothing can protect a person from being stalked and killed, (certainly not a piece of paper,) if there was a device on the person that the protective order was against, we would know where Venus is today. The law enforcement could have traced his whereabouts. If a judge agrees that there may be a threat to you and signs a protective order, then that should be enough to track someone that could be a danger to you. Indiana has a law that has a GPS device, (anklet), placed on a person, named on a protective order. Michigan should have one too. I think the offender should have to pay for this himself, to the state. I plea to you to introduce this to become a law, also I would like it to be called "The Venus Cuff', in honor of Venus and all other women that have been abused and/or murdered by domestic abusers.
