Tipped employees deserve to paid for their time just like other employees. Most of the time the hourly wage isn't enough to pay for taxes or medical insurance and the employees owe exorbitant amounts of money to pay their taxes at the end of the year.

Many tipped employees are also required to do up to 50% of their work while on the clock, making $2.63/hour NOT even making tips! This is time when they are required to do duties to open and close the business and are making far less than minimum wage!

As a result, waiters and waitresses have three times the poverty rate of the rest of the United States workforce, and more than half of all restaurant workers live below the federal poverty line for a family of three.

Now you can make a difference!

There is currently a bill in congress H.R. 631 which would`

(A) Increase wage to $3.75 within 90 days of enactment

(B) $5.00 an hour beginning 1 year after the date on which the change required by subparagraph (A) takes effect; and

(C) beginning 2 years after the date on which the change required by subparagraph (A) takes effect and adjusted as necessary thereafter, 70 percent of the wage in effect under section 6(a)(1) but in no case less than $5.50 an hour.'.
