Recently, Lift Line, the Paratransit agency of the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA), redrew their service map, eliminating regular service to the town of Ogden , NY, citing lack of ridership. Service to all the towns surrounding Ogden has remained intact, thus creating a “doughnut” where a number of people with disabilities are left without an appropriate way of getting to work, doctor appointments and participating in society as others expect to be able to. RGRTA is a public authority. Their number one focus should be on the public good and not the bottom line. While fiscal responsibility is expected, it should not be at the expense of the civil rights of people with disabilities. Therefore, we call on RGRTA to restore Lift Line service to the town of Ogden immediately.
