The Pacific Seahorse Needs You!

What's At Stake Marine Protected Areas are being proposed in Southern California, from Point Conception to San Diego. These underwater state parks and reserves have the power to restore damaged habitats and let threatened species thrive. Learn more.

San Diego Bay is home to California's only seahorse, the Pacific seahorse, in addition to five pipefish species (seahorse relatives). These animals maintain a delicate foothold in selected estuaries and bays along the south coast and are sensitive to habitat disturbance from a variety of human activities. Estuaries and coastal wetlands have consistently been designated as “marine reserves” under the Marine Life Protection Act, affording them the highest level of protection.

Please send a letter to the Governor and ask him to support a strong network of Marine Protected Areas to help marine diversity in Southern California prosper and thrive, and include protection for unique species like the Pacific seahorse.

Dear Governor,

The State of California has many ocean treasures, and the Pacific seahorse in San Diego is one of many that needs our protection in the Marine Life Protection Act process.

Marine Protected Areas - especially fully protected marine reserves - are an investment in the future health of our coastal waters.

Scientific studies confirm that marine reserves harbor larger fish, in greater abundance, and also support a greater diversity of marine life than other areas outside the reserve.

Healthy oceans also provide support to our coastal communities and California's economy.

Please give California the strongest possible legacy of ocean protection with a strong network of Marine Protected Areas in Southern California, and help to preserve seahorses and other marine wildlife in California for generations to come.
