Members of the Board of Trustees, President Schall, and Provost Von Herman:

We believe in the Core Program. We believe the Core fosters community on campus for each individual class cohort and for the student body as a whole. We believe Core creates a common vocabulary which helps students to apply theoretical ideas to present-day problems. We believe Core provides every student with an understanding of texts that have shaped humanity and the ability to frame current social issues in light of what has come before us, both verbally and in writing. We believe that the Core inspires confidence in the students who are transformed by the rigorous course of work. We believe that Core inspires confidence in any person who comes across an Oglethorpe graduate because our diplomas and degrees are insured by the reputation of the Core. We believe the Core enables and inspires current and former students to view their world with a critical eye and an unwavering hope for improvement. We believe that the academic integrity of Oglethorpe University rests on the Core and diminishing the Core would negatively impact former, current, and future students and the health of the institution as a whole.

We pledge to uphold the values and standards of the Core.
