This department funds programs that care for individuals with Mental Retardation, Autism, and Mental Health issues. After sustaining a cut by 10% last year. This is putting the lives of people who are the most vulnerable members of our society at risk for neglect and abuse, and, it is forcing non-profit agencies to make deep cuts to qualified staff who care for this population. While the state has seen a large influx of industry due to Marcellus Shale Gas drilling and has opened casinos across the state to pay for some of these programs that are through the Department of Developmental Programs. This funding MUST be restored in order to provide the same level of care that has become expected. in the community.
