Take action against elements destroying positive communal relations
The Issue
As Sri Lankans of all ethnicities and religions, we are shocked, dismayed and disappointed to learn about incidents in Sri Lanka that have taken place in April especially the recent Dambulla mosque incident . This cannot be done in the name of any religion or community.
As Sri Lankans we believe that incidents as we have seen in Dambulla (and elsewhere), do not create the confidence for interethnic interactions and societal harmony for co-existence. We totally reject as Not in Our Name, the actions of a minority who are intent on preventing the country moving forward.
We recognize that every person born in Sri Lanka is a trust and any advantage of a part of country is best preserved and enjoyed by promoting the comparative advantage of the whole country. Justice and equity are the guiding principles for human wellbeing, and to maximize development of everyone and safeguard a country.
The feeling of being equal citizens, can be realized only when everyone in the country internalizes that people should not have differential treatments on account of their demographic numbers, race and religion and such a diversity is not to be shunned but celebrated as fact of strength.
Let us unite in our diversity and enjoy fruits of a just society free of corruption, intimidation and harassment .
