PROTECT our Environment

Good Day,

Australia enjoys one of the biggest and best marine environments in the world. Whether it's colourful coral gardens, majestic blue whales, or darting schools of fish, it's a remarkable and truly unique backdrop to a lifestyle we're proud of. However, under huge pressure from over-fishing, pollution, mining and climate change, our marine life is now at risk.

With major decisions about the protection of our marine life now due, you have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to turn this around.

Australia's South West is home to huge numbers of unique species - many yet to be discovered. It provides crucial breeding and feeding grounds for fish, whales, turtles, sea lions and other sea creatures. It is also home to Australia's deepest waters, Australia's largest canyon, and Australia's largest mountain range - all below the waves. Despite these extraordinary features, less than 1% of this area is protected.

I urge you to adopt the highest standards of marine science and conservation and put in place a network of large marine sanctuaries throughout our South West that will secure a healthy future for our marine life and lifestyle.

Please keep me informed about what you intend to do regarding this critical conservation issue.

Yours sincerely,
