Why This Is Important

The Texas Ballet Theater began using taped music for its performances 3 years ago citing financial hardship. By cutting live music in both its Dallas and Fort Worth performances the company has "saved" money even while musicians have lost a substantial portion of their annual income and struggle to make ends meet. The result has been a drastic reduction in the quality of performances, fewer ticket sales, lower revenues, moving to less desirable venues, and a downward spiral of confidence and support for the company. Ballet with taped music is neither "world-class" nor a complete performance. If the TBT brings back its live orchestras it can once again claim artistic excellence, use the $1.5 million it has amassed by not having an orchestra to reintroduce that expense into the budget, and offer the the audience and dancers the full experience they deserve. It will not only help spur our area's economy by putting musicians back to work, but it will also provide inspiration and beauty during very difficult times.

Stop using taped music. Bring back live orchestra!

Dear Texas Ballet Theater,

Please stop using tape and bring back live professional music to your performances. Ballet without live orchestra is incomplete, and offers both the dancers and the audience a much less satisfying, creative, inspirational and professional experience.

I urge you to bring back both the Fort Worth Symphony and Dallas Opera Orchestras into the pits at Bass Hall and the Winspear Opera House. Their musicians' artistic gifts combined with those of the dancers create a unique and special chemistry that cannot be replicated or replaced with tape. They have served you well for many years and helped to bring your company to a very high level of excellence.

By bringing back the musicians, everyone wins. The dancers, the company, the musicians, and, most of all, the audience. It will not only help spur our area's economy by putting musicians back to work and improving the fiscal health of the TBT by selling more tickets and reviving the audience, but it will also provide inspiration and beauty during very difficult times.

The ballet needs its orchestra back. And the community needs its complete ballet back.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
