Tennis Australia must stop Spanish fans from promoting bullfighting at the Australian Open

The issue

Bullfighting is one of the cruellest blood sports in the world so why is Tennis Australia allowing Spanish tennis fans to hold up flags with pictures of bulls on them during the Australian Open? This not only promotes this blood sport but it sends a message to the rest of the world that Tennis Australia condones this brutal torture and slaughter of bulls all in the name of 'sport'.

Each year, approximately 250,000 bulls die in bullfights,(1) an inaccurate term for events in which there is very little competition between a nimble, sword-wielding matador (Spanish for “killer”) and a confused, maimed, psychologically tormented, and physically debilitated animal.(2) According to one matador, some of the top performers may “ask breeders to deliberately select placid bulls …. It’s the only way to sustain your energy for the duration of the season.”(3)
