The Vallejo, California school district showed a film to educate students about bullying. The film, "Let's get real" showed several scenarios, including a gay student being bullied. One parent, however, protested. This woman stated that teaching her child not to bully a gay student meant that the film was teaching her son to accept the homosexual "lifestyle".... something she is against. According to her, showing this film violated her rights.

Please support the Vallejo School district on this and encourage them to continue showing this film! The only rights that are being "violated" are the students who continue to be bullied by people like this woman and her children! Enough bullying already!!

Keep showing "Let's get real"!

Dear Board of Education,

Recently your district showed to its students the anti-bullying film "Let's get real". This film shows several bullying scenarios, including one about a homosexual student.

I know this film caused some problems for you, as a "parent" seemed to think you were "violating her rights" by showing this film. According to the news article, she seems to feel that teaching tolerance of homosexual students somehow means you are going against her parenting wishes.

The only person whose rights are being violated are the children who are being bullied. NO STUDENT should be bullied for any reason, especially on the grounds of sexual preference. While we can not dictate to a parent that they can not teach their child to be a bigot, it is the responsibility of the school and society to teach them that harm to others will not be tolerated.

We are asking you to continue showing this film to your students. Bullying should not be tolerated in any school. Even, or perhaps especially, when it is a PARENT encouraging such behavior!
