A petition to the President to encourage him to use his bully pulpit to let the American people see the healthcare negotiations on CSpan
Encourage the Congress to allow coverage of healthcare negotiations on CSpan
The Honorable President Barack Obama:
In your campaign for President, several times you made a pledge to the American people to do everything within the power of your position to ensure a transparent Federal government.
Currently, negotiations are in progress in the Congress to reconcile the House's Bill with the Senate's Bill. However, the progress of these negotiations are hidden from the American people, whom this bill will effect substantially.
C-Span has offered numerous concessions to the Congressional leadership in exchange for being able to televise the progress of the negotiations. This request, in fact, is directly in line with your campaign pledge to have transparent negotiations that would be televised on C-Span. However, Senator Reid of Nevada and Congresswoman Pelosi of California appear uninterested in allowing C-Span to carry their negotiations.
Mister President, it is our request that you use your bully pulpit to demand to the Congressional leadership that they keep this bill transparent and in full view of the American people, and that if the leadership fails to this end, it is our request that you use your Presidential veto to send a message to Congress that legislation that must be hidden from the American people is not good enough to be imposed upon the American people.
