The Texas House has passed a budget that would require state universities to match dollar for dollar the money spent on LGBT resource centers with the promotion of heterosexual "traditional values." The budget is set to go to the state senate. Tell Texas senators to reject the proposal!
Don't divert money from LGBT resource centers
Greetings,
It has come to my attention that a budget amendment has passed the state house that would require state universities to spend an equal amount on LGBT resource centers and the promotion of "traditional values." This is unacceptable.
LGBT resource centers provide a necessary service. They are there to support LGBT people when other social support is lacking. These resource centers are important in turning LGBT people from a marginalized group into productive members of society. The proposed budget would divert money away from this important goal, and, at worst, eliminate LGBT resource centers altogether.
Diverting money in this way will not make gay people go away. It will only further marginalize them and, ultimately, make university education in Texas less attractive and dynamic. I urge you to reject the budget amendment.
